The Chambers House Museum was built in 1906. C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers purchased the home in 1914 and moved in with their daughters, 2 year old Florence and 12 year old Ruth. The daughters never married and after the death of their parents, continued to live in the home until Florence’s death in 2004. For nearly 100 years, the family made no changes to the home or its furnishings. Interpreting the years from 1920-1945, the collection includes all of the original family furniture and artifacts. The John Jay French Museum, located at 3025 French Road, demonstrates the daily life of a prosperous Texas frontiersman and his family from 1845-1865. Built in 1845, the house is the oldest fully restored home in Beaumont, Texas. The home is one of the first built using milled lumber instead of logs, which was common at the time. It is also one of the first painted homes and one of the first two-story homes built in the area. The museum complex includes a blacksmith shop, tannery, washhouse, smokehouse, and family cemetery.
