The John Jay French Museum demonstrates the daily life of a prosperous Texas frontiersman and his family from 1845-1865. Built in 1845, the house is the oldest fully restored home in Beaumont, Texas. The home is one of the first built using milled lumber instead of logs, which was common at the time. It is also one of the first painted homes and one of the first two-story homes built in the area. The museum complex includes a blacksmith shop, tannery, washhouse, smokehouse, and family cemetery
