Brilliant composers have journeyed far and wide to capture elusive and foreign sounds. Lifetimes of learning and mastering unfamiliar musical themes have served to reward the most daring of musicians. Opening this evening’s concert is a work by a Grammy Award- winning Argentinian composer whose family emigrated from Romania and Russia. Then a dynamic concerto by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, followed by Hungarian-born ethnomusicologist Zoltán Kodály’s suite from his folk opera about an Austrian cavalryman. American Composer Aaron Copland concludes the concert with his rousing suite about the famous frontier outlaw.
