The park-like grounds of Spiegel Grove have been a gathering spot since the time 19th President Rutherford Hayes took up permanent residence at his wooded country estate. "GroveFest" continues that tradition . The multi-faceted event takes place throughout the grounds of Spiegel Grove.GroveFest is divided into two parts. Families are the focus of Nature at the Grove planned for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Hayes Mansion. More than a dozen area organizations and businesses provide FREE hands-on activities for attendees, while offering information on wildlife, plants, conservation, and enjoyment of the outdoors. Among the participants are: the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, Sandusky County Parks District, Toledo Zoo, Back to the Wild, Lowes of Fremont, and the Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Nature at the Grove attendees will be able to purchase food and beverages or take a horse-drawn wagon ride ($1/ages 12 and younger or $3/ages 12 and up). Adult fun is the goal of the Bid at the Grove Auction from 6:00-9:30 p.m. in an elegant reception tent located in the Lucy Hayes Rose Garden. The auction is the Hayes Presidential Center’s largest annual fundraiser. Luscious foods, fine wines, artisan beers, and other refreshments are available all evening as guests bid on auction items, participate in games, and join in raffles.
