At Mardi Gras! Galveston, the extravagance found in Texas’ largest Mardi Gras celebration starts with the beads! More than 3 million beads will be thrown at Mardi Gras! Galveston and that’s just the beginning of the elaborate parades, headliner performances, family events, feasting and other festivities that come with hosting Mardi Gras island style.

Rich in history, Mardi Gras! Galveston will celebrate 101 years on the island in 2012 with six new parades and plenty of opportunity for you to be a part of the festivities, from the new Decorated Golf Cart parade to the wildly popular Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade’s attempt for another world record! In total, Mardi Gras! Galveston 2012 will feature 26 concerts, 24 parades, 19 balcony parties and five elegant masked balls.

In addition, the popular band Hot Chelle Rae – named the New Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Music Awards – will headline Mardi Gras! Galveston live performances. Hot Chelle Rae exploded onto the national music scene earlier this year with their hit single “Tonight, Tonight.” The first official single off their sophomore album titled “Whatever,” rose to number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The single eventually went double platinum and the band’s fan following has continued to grow through its success.

Due to the revival of a ticketed entertainment district, last year’s event was a huge success with increased attendance, making it one of the largest and safest Mardi Gras events on record. The 2012 event will be even bigger and better, providing plenty of reasons why you should be among the 300,000 people expected to “bead” there!
