Description:

One of Marion's most famous residents was noted author Sherwood Anderson. A contemporary of Faulkner, Hemingway and Steinbeck, Anderson was one of America's noted short story writers. His "second life" as a writer brought him to Marion, where he owned the local newspaper, join the fire department, and lived as one of the most colorful characters in the town's history. This fall, the town will again honor Anderson with a series of events, including the popular Short Story Contest, tours of his home "Ripshin", guided walking tours of his haunts, special speaker events, and even a themed "Grand Ball"! Make your plans to celebrate the life and times of Sherwood Anderson where he last called home - and chose to be his final resting place - historic Marion, VA!
