"Genieten van een leuke dag!” – Dutch for, “Enjoy a fun day!” You get to “enjoy a fun day” overflowing with delicious food, a farmer’s market, antiques, Dutch collectibles and gift items, and entertainment around you all day! This day can be experienced at the one-and-only Elim Dutch Festival on September 24, 2011 at Elim Christian Services!
The Dutch Festival, held on Elim Christian Service’s grounds, is a day of fun for all ages and all the proceeds from the event benefit children and adults with disabilities. The day begins at 7:30 am on September 24, 2011 with a home cooked pannekoeke (pancake) breakfast. The rest of the day, from 8 am – 4 pm, the Dutch Village shops will be open where you can indulge in Dutch pastries, see the crafts and gift items, or sit and enjoy the all-day entertainment.
The day is provided for people of all ages to come and experience some Dutch traditions and enjoy entertainment through the entire day. The Dutch treats include oliebollen (Dutch doughnuts), poffertjes (mini pancake treats), rodekool (red cabbage), pea soup, pigs-in-a-blanket, banket (pastry with almont filling), and hutspot (beef and potatoes). The children can enjoy the petting zoo, magic show, Kid’s carnival, and other entertainment. Who knows, someone might catch a glimpse of Sinterklaas (Dutch Santa Claus). The adults will love the Christmas collectibles, delft, unique Dutch groceries, baked goods, Farmer’s Market, and the Wooden Shoe Carver, along with the entertainment offered. For those who would like more conventional foods, hamburgers, pizza by the slice, bratwurst, hot dogs, baked potatoes, pie slices, brownie sundaes, caramel apple delights, Taco-in-a-bag, popcorn, coffee and soft drinks are all available at reasonable prices.
Admission to Dutch Festival is free and free parking with shuttle bus service is provided. All proceeds benefit Elim Christian Services. Elim’s mission is to equip children and adults with disabilities to achieve to their highest God-given potential. Elim pursues this mission by providing educational, vocational, therapeutic, and residential services to over 800 persons with developmental disabilities.
