Since 2012. The competition will bring 16 of the state's best two-person snow sculpting teams to Downtown Racine's Monument Square. The sculptors will be competing for cash prizes, as well as the state title. As Wisconsin's only state-sanctioned snow sculpting competition, The Big Chill championship team advances to the U.S. National Competition. Professional snow sculptors from throughout the state are welcome to submit their designs for approval. The designs will be carved out of 8' x 8' x 4' blocks of snow. The competition gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday and the winner is announced Sunday at 2 p.m. For the past two years, Downtown Racine has hosted their own Winterfest snow sculpting festival in December. That event will now be combined with the state championships in January. In addition to the championship competition, there will be local/amateur snow sculpting as well as a number of featured guest sculptors. Downtown Racine is also combining their annual Downtown Carves Its Niche Ice Carving Competition with The Big Chill. There will be approximately 15 ice carvers who will be carving 300 pound blocks of ice along Main and 6th Streets. Visitors to Downtown Racine will enjoy viewing both breathtaking snow sculptures along with amazing ice sculptures. Visitors will also be asked to vote for their favorites.
