The Watermelon Festival, put on each year by the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, is expanding to two days this year. Chamber President Marc McNeece says this change will allow more opportunities for people to attend, and more chances for vendors to sell their merchandise and participate. The festival will start on Friday, July 31st at 5:00 p.m. on Patrick Henry Square, with live music at beginning at 7:00 and a movie to follow. Saturday kicks off with the Great American Grill Off, as well as the annual Baby, Toddler and Watermelon Queen contests, which will still be a big part of the event. There’s also the traditional watermelon eating and seed spitting contests. It goes without saying, there will be a lot of watermelon to sample throughout the event!
