Description:

The Octagon is made up of an architecture museum and historic house, the 1799-1801 Federal townhouse which served as the first temporary White House during the winter of 1814-1815 for President James and Dolly Madison. The museum displays original architectural drawings, photographs, artifacts, and decorative arts of the period, 1800-1928.
