Apple Butter Fest

Since 1976. Demonstrations, entertainment, juried craft exhibitors, reenactments, apples, apple butter, food galore and more. Lots of applebutter and plenty of down-home, old fashioned memories for tens of thousands of visitors to the scenic Victorian Canal Town, Grand Rapids. Applebutter is the main feature with three 50 gallon copper kettles being cooked in the village park by the restored Town Hall. More than 2,300 pints of applebutter will be for sale at the park. Be sure to get yours early - they go fast! You can even join in on the fun of giving a kettle a stir and experiencing the camaraderie as neighbors did years ago. This festival is especially well known for the history it presents both through 100+ juried craftsmen and the demonstrations and presentations that occur throughout the day. This history-based day will be filled with re-enactors and volunteers doing demonstrations of pioneer skills such as candle dipping, blacksmithing, pottery making, basket weaving, quilt making and metal spinning. Out on the towpath military groups will be going through their paces and demonstrating the arms and weapons of their various time periods. Fire in the hole: be sure to catch the cannon demonstrations out over the Maumee River!
