The Roanoke Rugby Men’s team will be hosting the 1st Annual B Cup – Rugby Match for Breast Cancer. The B Cup will bring together four men’s rugby teams from the area (Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Roanoke and Blacksburg) to raise money for the Greater Roanoke Valley affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Werness Fund. It is estimated that over 180,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Somewhere in the world a woman dies from breast cancer every sixty-eight seconds. It is the team’s goal to make this an annual event that not only will raise money for cancer research, but will bring the local community together and highten detection awareness. Each player will raise a money to play in the match. There will also be game day t-shirts, food and drinks for sale, as well as raffle tickets for game day jerseys and donated goods and services. All proceeds will be donated to the Greater Roanoke Valley affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Werness Fund.
