The Herberger Theater Center’s Arts Education & Outreach Department is offering a free Community & Education Outreach program on– Folkloric Dance on Tuesday, May 22 at 1pm in The Kax Stage.
During this 45 minute program, people will discover the rhythms, dance and culture of various Middle Eastern countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, and Egypt. They will learn what these dances represent culturally, their purpose, as well as how they have created and impacted the evolution of modern Raks Sharqi Dances (Belly Dancers) along with the difference between café dances and the professional industry of Raks Sharqi Dancers.
The Folkloric Dance Program will be led by Ava Fleming of Silk Road Studios. Ava is a performer, choreographer and dance instructed based in Phoenix. She is the winner of “Belly Dancer of the Universe,” Champion, People’s Choice and Miss Congeniality.
Preceding the Folkloric Dance Program is Lunch Time Theater’s show Broadway Based On… Broadway’s ‘Best Musicals,’ an exciting musical revue. Patrons are invited to purchase tickets for $6.00 to the Lunch Time Theater performance beginning at 12:10pm and stay afterwards or come at 1pm for the free program.
