The Great Pumpkin Fest is a community event celebrating the fall season with a focus on youth and the development of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) skills in local schools. The event highlights a Pumpkin Chuckin competition where teams will build either a catapult, trebuchet or slingshot to launch an 8 to 10 lb. pumpkin for distance, accuracy, and creativity. New this year is the addition of “The Best of the Midwest BBQ Cook-Off”, this is a sanctioned Kansas City Barbecue Society event. The Fest includes an abundance of family-friendly activities including: free kids games, rides, kids’ activities, pie eating contest, pie auction, and pumpkin baking contest, people’s choice chili cook-off and costume contests for both adults and youth. There will be live music on Saturday night and a youth costume parade on Sunday.
