Alta Vista Gardens

Let's Get Down in the Dirt! Alta Vista Gardens is in our fourth year of getting kids outdoors to learn about their environment and gardening. Join us this month at Kids in the Garden getting down into the dirt and "cooking up compost." Class time is from 10 am to noon. Our Earth has many kinds of soils from sand to clay to compost and mulch, and we will be handling and learning about their uses and differences. We will also be cooking up compost using leaves, grass, weeds and garbage to help you get started in your own garden. Your registration for the class covers your visit to the Children's Garden: our Fall Fun Festival scarecrows now on display, the fantastic Children's Music Garden and the Dino Dig, as well as the Incredible Edibles Garden. You are welcome to tour the rest of the Gardens for beautiful views, special gardens and unique sculptures. Class fee is $5 per child for two hours of FUN - accompanied adults are free! When you join and buy a family membership in Alta Vista Gardens, the monthly Kids in the Garden class is free for a year. Donations are gratefully accepted. Family Membership in the Gardens: what a great holiday gift idea! Pre-registration with Farmer Jones is required ... contact or call (760) 822-6824. Farmer Jones is a retired elementary teacher with 28 years' experience in the classroom. She is a Master Composter who has been working in school gardens and children's gardens for 40 years. School field trips and club tours are also available for a reasonable fee.
